Merge several WhatsApp chat exports into one timeline

Have the same chat exported from an old phone and a new one, or from Android and iPhone? Add all the files and Convobook puts them in date order and removes the messages that appear twice.

How duplicates are found

Two messages count as the same when they have the same sender, the same minute and the same text. A message that has its photo in one export and shows “media omitted” in another is kept once, with the photo.

Mixed formats are fine

You can merge Android and iPhone exports, exports in different languages and date formats, and .txt files together with .zip files. The date format of each file is detected separately and can be corrected by hand.

How it works

  1. Export the chat from WhatsApp on your phone, with or without media.
  2. Open the .zip or .txt file in Convobook. Nothing is uploaded.
  3. Read and search it, then save it as PDF, HTML, Excel or CSV.

How to export a chat from WhatsApp

Android

Open the chat → tap ⋮ → More → Export chat → Include media (or Without media) → save the .zip file.

iPhone

Open the chat → tap the chat name at the top → Export chat → Attach media (or Without media) → Save to Files.

What you get

Stays on your device

There is no server behind the converter, and the page's security policy blocks every network connection. You can even turn off Wi-Fi after it opens.

Android and iPhone

Reads exports from both, in many languages and date formats, including multi-line messages and group events.

Chat-bubble PDF

Names, dates, photos and stickers in the conversation, a cover page and page numbers.

HTML archive

One file that opens in any browser, with the photos inside and a search box.

Excel and CSV

One row per message with real dates and times, plus statistics per person.

Merge, search, filter

Join several exports without duplicates, search words, and pick a person or a date range.

Questions

Can it merge two different chats?

It puts every file you add on one timeline, but it is made for exports of the same chat. Merging different chats only makes sense if you want one combined record.

What if a contact's name changed?

Messages are matched by the sender name written in the export. If a contact was saved under another name on another phone, those messages stay separate.

Are my messages uploaded?

No. Convobook runs in your browser. The converter page is not allowed to send data anywhere, and it keeps working offline.

What does it cost?

Reading the whole chat and exporting the first 100 messages is free. A 30-day pass costs $9 and a lifetime key costs $19, paid once.

Which chats can I convert?

Chats you exported yourself from your own WhatsApp. Please respect the privacy of the other people in the conversation.
